Embrace the Basic

The definition of the term basic in the dictionary states: Forming an essential foundation or starting point; fundamental. The basics are a necessary foundation of life and of who we are as individuals. It wasn’t until I started embracing my basics that I started to really live my life to the fullest. It was when I made that mental shift that I finally felt myself settling into who I was meant to be.

The term basic is thrown around so often these days. You can even be labeled depending on what your Starbucks order is (pumpkin spice latte anyone?). But I am here to tell you – Who. The. Hell. Cares. In an effort to NOT be considered basic, everyone actually ends up more like each other than if they were to just be themselves.

So now you’re probably thinking, why she ranting about being basic? Because that’s what this blog is about. Getting back to basics. Embracing your basic. And sharing the basics that form the essential foundation of my life. My goal is to share my experiences traveling, eating, and navigating this messy adventure called life in the hopes that I can inspire someone to embrace their basic. At the end of the day, the basics are what unite us and I promise we have more in common with one another than we do differences.

So, why did I start this blog you ask? Great question! This is actually not my first blog. I dabbled with blogging and websites back in 2012, at a time when I was unfilled in my job, my relationship and most aspects of my life and craved a platform to explore who I was and who I wanted to be. Sadly, my previous blog also existed at a time when the Buzzfeed list style of content was HOT. I created my blog to seek job opportunities and do an occasional GIF oriented blog about completely impersonal topics. At the end of the day, it really wasn’t something I was passionate about – it wasn’t me. I was trying to be someone else. I was not embracing my basic.

Now here I am writing my first entry on my shiny new blog! And it feels so right. But its also terrifying at the same time. I plan to get personal here. Like really personal. There is always a chance that people might not like what I have to say, but I’m okay with that. I’m doing this for me and because I genuinely believe that the more we share, the more we can relate to one another. I’ll probably post some highlight reel content too because I’m a sucker for good aesthetics and a sunset (like I said, BASIC), But I promise to not slap a filter on my life and call it perfect. No one’s life is perfect and what I’ve learned in my 28 short years is that everyone is going through something. It might be different from your own challenges, but I promise you everyone has their own unique struggles and I am here to disclose mine. Because the more we talk about our problems, the less scary they seem and the more we can help each other.

So, welcome to Lifestyles of a Basic Millennial! Here I’ll share my basics for embracing the good and the bad, and living life to the fullest in between my 9 to 5, and I hope you’ll join me for the ride!
